I attempted to advance my timing to 15* BTDC by following the instructions in the sticky. Both before and after, my timing light shows only 5* at idle. If I go back and unhook the TPS and fans, it shows 15* again. Should I be seeing 15* at idle in park? Is there anything I can do to confirm the timing change (other than filling up with 87 and seeing if it pings)?

Also, am I supposed to look at the timing mark by looking straight down on it from above the motor mount, or should I look in from the front, near the radiator hose? They both give different readings.

i dont know if it happens all the time but when i changed the timing on my ga16de, i noticed it would not idle once in "timing mode" FSM said if it does this, to just idle it up to spec. before changing timing. you want to look from the front of the car
