Hey all,
I'm from Melbourne, Florida I own a 1988 Nissan Sentra (B12) with a 1.6l (E16S) and I have a lot of work done to my car, for example Custom Paint w/ body kit and graphics, Full Fiberglass Dash w/ flush mounted TV in dash and PS2 in glove box, Full Fiberglass Doors, Wall of 4 15" Eclipse Subs w/ JBL 1200 amp, Hydraulics w/ EuroPump by CCE and 10 Switches, 17" Motegi White wheels w/ 205/40 Z rated tires, and now I've decided it's time for some motor work...
I know what you'll all say, "Swap in the SR20DET" but that cost like $4000 and my whole car was built on a budget. I could only do the SR20DET swap if i could get full instructions (lol) on how to do it myself, otherwise it would be a waste of dreaming. so anyways my other choices are the E15T out of an 83-85 Pulsar, problem 1 is that they are hard to find, problem 2 is I dont know exactly what that swap requires... I just heard it bolts up to the tranny. The second swap is the GA16DE out of a newer sentra because they make alot more for it and it starts at 110hp but I dont know how hard that swap would be or anything about how to change the computer for that matter, so the point i'm at now is to possibly build my E16S (p.o.s.) motor by giving it the same bore and stroke as the GA16DE, Port and Polish the head, and throw in a cam but I still dont like the TPS or whatever kind of fuel injection my motor has and I dont know how to upgrade the fuel system, besides I dont even know if all of that work would get my 69 horsepower motor anywhere near where I want it.
The other thing everyone should know is that i am building this car for show but it's also my daily driver so I need a bit of horsepower for myself but it wont really be raced, plus I have a wall so it's never gonna be really fast. So I would like to get somewhere around 150hp or so... more is always nice but if anyone has any ideas I could really use the help... Thanks for your time!

p.s. my website is http://www.EuroStylz.cc even though I dont really have pictures of my car yet... but they will be there soon!

Rob

well that was the post i left on another board but this one seems more for me... since i posted that i decided i would most likely go with the E15T swap...

Building up the e16s is not recommended. You can put alot of money into it but you will never get much power out of it (100+ hp) Go for a SR20DE or CA18DE swap. If you can find one an e15t is a cool engine too.

BTW don't bother swapping in a GA16DE. Too much money for not enough engine.

well i need to know what it takes to swap the 1.8 like tranny, motor mounts, axles, computer, etc... and if anyone could help me i also need a little knowledge about changing the computer not for the specific swap just in general cuz i know nothing about it... specifics on how it works and what needs to be changed, how hard it is and stuff like that... anyone?

Yo Eurostylz I live in miami which is a hop skip and a ghetto jump away from you. I can help you with your power dilemma in natural aspiration (CA18DE) or turbocharged (CA18DET) all depends on what kind of power you want and how tight is your budget. The CA18 series is a budget swap with plenty of [email protected] potential. I am a living testament as I have 2 of them that can hold their own against anything. If you're really interested, either pm me or email me off list. There's I don't know of anyone else in south florida sporting this set up and if they are, must be pretty hush-hush about it....

I talk alot about my girl's car because it has been my test bed for the reconstruction of my own B12. In hers is a stock (internally) CA18DET mated to a 1988 nissan pulsar SE tranny to include the pulsar's flywheel, ACT pressure plate and a Kevlar disk. AXles are from the pulsar as well. I have all the brakes off a 1993 NX2000, but the rear discs are a bit of hassle and should not be attempted if you don't know what you're doing. Injectors are MSD 550cc units/ intercooler is front mount hidden behind the bumper and is an efficient unit (Home made). I just recently (in january) paid $1300.00 for an SDS www.sdsefi.com stand alone system for flexibility and programmabilty. I have 1993 SE-R front seats. The instrument cluster is where my attention to detail was focused on I really don't care for the big dumb tachs. A 300zx tt pump supplies the fuel which is regulated by a nismo F/P regulator. The car has A/C, power steering and the front bumper still has it's reinforcemnt. Just recently added a bigger turbo T3/T04E mated to the stock manifold, some reground cams by www.colt cams.com, phantom grip LSD and a set cheap, but heavy duty coilovers by image in which I purchased off ebay (not too shabby either). WEll , this is my girl's car now just imagine what my car is like when all my parts are better than hers??????;)

CA18DET

I think the best engine to swap for would be the CA18DET, its only offered in Japan so you won't find it at a junkyard. You'd also need a Pulsar 5 speed, the clutch, Axles, ECU(if it doesn't come with one), MAF(if it doesn't come with one), and wiring harness. The FWD version of the engine puts out like [email protected], so thats almost to your 150hp goal.

Please allow me to correct you on those power figures;) The CA18DET come in two versions, 1 with no intercooler and 1 with a top mount intercooler. The non intercooled version puts out 165hp at stock boost levels (5-7psi) and the intercooled version puts out 175hp at stock boost levels.

B12.

Did ANY BODY ever think to wonder. . . Maybe I some body in the U.S. has a B12 rotting away in his/her garage? Just once, any body wonder? ? ?

Like I'm waiting for a reply please. . . . . .

Hey Boost, I did not know you had a GA16I, nor did I know you know HOW to swap motors. First I had considered a E15T not a soul would swap it, next I tried a GA16I and nobody would touch it, next converting the E16S to a E16I Mustang 302 told me what to get and he was 100% right too but first I would try to find a shop that would do it cound not find a soul. . .

So it still sits where you last saw it with a bad carburetor. Phuk!

Greg, I can't believe you didn't know I knew how to swap engines. Though it's my hobby, I would like to say I'm pretty thorough at engines, trannie, etc, etc. The silver B12 originally had a GA16i that ran perfectly with 167,000 miles on it. Since I had like 4 CA18's, I decided to just toss one in there so that the engines don't go to waste or something like that. I ended using this car as a test bed to recreate my own B12 which is red in color. What do you need? Parts???? Let me know if you do.

Can you relocate that top mount intercooler to the front on the later model CA18DETs? That's the first thing I'd do probably.

I would relocate that top mount intercooler to the nearest garbage can:p I would not put that thing in front of a car if they were going to run the car into a wall. But I did keep it under my hood for god knows how long (over a year) and the car still spanky-spanked. This intercooler is nothing but a connector pipe unless you can actually air it out and at the same time keep the engine's heat off of it. I have extras if you want them...........

Yeah I know, I meant can you reroute the entire intake pipe system to the front? e.g. Why put it on top to begin with? Even a side mount would've been better than the top.
