Hi, I've looked around a bit on here, but haven't found what I need to know.

When I got my 89 sentra two months ago I was told that I'd have to the the lower ball joints in the next half year. Turns out the want $500 to do the job. The car was $700. I've started doing my own work, and I think I can do this myself. What I need to know is what kind of ball joints my car uses. The pressed ones or the non pressed ones.

I've sourced the parts for under $20 each, and I just got some jack stands and a torque wrench and yada yada, so I'm raring to go :) I guess I'll need a ball joint press, too?

you only have lower ball joints, the only ones i have seen for the b12 is the press in type.
you will need to remove control arm to press out the old ball joints and put the new ones in.

Thanks, that narrows things down quite a bit. I'll ask a friend of a friend to borrow his ball joint press. I just learned today about a repair shop coop in Victoria, so whoop whoop, a hoist for $7 an hour!
