Folks,

Looks like the insurance co is totalling out my 96 XE HB - both bad and good news. Bad because my 96 is a great truck and has many more miles to go beyond it's current 161k and good because I've been wanting (now it's a need) a newer/larger/4x4 truck with all the amenities.

I'm currently not fully sold on the V6, I tow a pontoon w/my 96 XE and the only time I feel uncomfortable with it's power is when pulling the boat out at the landing. An i4 4x4 would allow me to shift into L4 and pull the boat out with no problem.

I've got a few question floating around in my head:

1. Is the failure trend for the SC V6 higher than normal V6's?

2. Is the perceived power increase from the i4 to the V6 to the SC V6 that noticable and worth the expense?

3. Can I expect the same reliability from an 01-04 Frontier as I have come to rely on with my 96 XE?

4. Is the durability of the Frontier on par with that of the HB series?

5. What kind of MPG do you experience with the:
i4:
V6:
SC V6:

6. How easy is the standard (oil/tune up) maintenance on the 01-04 Frontier?
i4:
V6:
SC V6:

7. On any year CC, does the rear seat fold flat so the area can be used for storage?

8. Any advantage to stepping up one more year and getting an 05?

Thanks

from what i have read and talking to people sc is no higher failure than standard v6.

if you go with the frontier you need the v6. the sc has a little more power, which you might need for your boat.

frontiers are reliable/durable...i personally do not have enough data to compare to hb, but they are waaaaaay nicer!

SC V6 mpg is bad. my buddy has an se v6 and gets around 15mpg. dont kid yourself on this one. 12-14 on a good day, but the sc sounds cool!

tuneup on sc is same as others except for the spark plugs. you can do it yourself, but you will need patience, and a flexhead socket. (or if you dont mind taking of the sc).

yes on cc, rear seat can fold flat. only advantage to 05 is newer. look at body styles, the 01-04 are pretty cool. the 05 up look like mini titans...

hope this helps.

forgot, if you look at sc's, check oil dipstick and make sure no oil burn from running it hard...
