just picked up this little car to commute...got it from an old lady..its in great shape..has 85k miles and receipts for work done..but she lot the owners manual....I ordered one but I was wondering what weight oil does the manual recoomed for the 1.6 motor?

5w-30, but I have used 10w-30 since getting mine at 75,000 miles. Hope you enjoy your car!

it should say on the underside of the hood. thats where i discovered that i should use 10w30, which is what i use all the time.

I believe mine said 5w-30 on the underside of the hood? Hmm? Well, check underside of your hood...

the underside of the hood has a little graph/chart thingy.

it says you can use 5w30 for all temperature ranges, and 10w30 for 32* and up. so if you live in the south you can use 10w30, but its just too thick for cold winters.

personally, i would reccomend using 5w30. improves gas mileage a smidge but more importantly it cuts down on startup wear. 10w30 is to thick to get to all the places it needs to be on startup, thus causing wear. 5w30 will get there faster and reduce the wear.
