Damn automatics. Just when I'm getting on it under fairly strong/normal acceleration I can feel the motor pulling strongly and then it upshifts and it bogs down. If the shifts points were only raised a bit higher this thing would be a decent performer. Anyhoo....just do it by feel (sound?) and you'll be able to figure out were to shift. I use the O.D. button all the time for hills and I got it down to a science.

The best way to get a good launch with an automatic is prolly to powerbrake and rev the engine a lil then let off the brake. Whatever you do, don't put the car in nuetral, rev, then throw it into first... if you do, you'll be looking for a new tranny soon. Just practice launching a few times till you get it down. As far as good shifting points, it depends on the car... just listen to the engine as driving and feel what the car is doing as well. With some practice you'll be good at it in no time.

This is silly you dont buy an auto to race it. If you want to race then by a 5 speed. Auto's dont win unless its a supra or something with a 3.0 engine. Just be carefull who you race. Auto's shift to early so if you race a manual with anyhting with the same engine size or bigger. bye bye.

Ever try manually shifting it.......depending on the computer, you can sometimes hold each gear longer by doing it manually, whereas just leaving it in "D" will have it shortshift each gear. Also, do the powerbrake/braketorque thing. It almost ALWAYS gets you a better launch in an auto.

Dont do the Neutral drops. thats bye bye for your tranny. Too lazy to drive a standard?? Then why would you want to shift your auto?? Anyways, what was stated could work about power braking and such. Seriously, some people need to stop being "lazy" and get a manual. Its much more fun. Plus they cost less money to buy and fix than an auto tranny.

how much damage is it doing to a manual tranny when you rev it to about 3000rpms at a stop then drop the clutch and floor it? i was just wondering if anybody has had any problems after doing this. Thanks
Um....that's how you launch if you race someone...........

I've dumped the clutch from over 6K before with no problems.....it just wears the clutch out faster.

Take a huge ruberband , wrap it around 2 telephone poles, put your car in reverse and tense the rubberband as far back as you can, then let er' rip.

i think he means he gets lazy when just casually driving......like from house to the store and what not.............getting a torque convertor is prolly the best thing u can get to get descent launches.......today, i was following my friend in his mustang, and i started shifting....was in first gear..took off, heard my radar detector go off, so i started looking around and totally forgot about my shifting, car started fucking up, look at speedo and i'm doing 42mph in first gear, i over revved it like 2 times i think, that was a big scare.........

Well, thats just smart. Yes, lets all manually shift our autos, and pay more attention to a radar detector than our transmission, all in all to avoid a $200 speeding ticket, when trying to avoid that, causing you to screw your transmission up beyond belief which in turn is a ~$1500 repair. Riiiiight....

Anyways, you would know that this M'Fer does not own a classic anymore. This M'Fer now owns a Civic, if you had done a search, you would have known. :

well if you heard your radar detector go off, why didnt you either let off the accelerator or hit the brakes slightly as to not seem like you were going that fast. Also, how could you not hear your engine rev loudly??

lets say you do get a ticket and you get your license suspended, maybe it would be for the better. Cause if youre getting a lot of tickets within a certain time period that just shows either youre a bad driver or are violating traffic laws at the wrong times.
