OK, when I bought my car, I told myself I'd leave it stock, and just keep it long enough to get my student loans paid off, and then sell it for practically nothing, just to get rid of the cheap ass economy car and buy myself a REAL car.
Within an hour, I found myself actually starting to like the car a little bit.
About a month into ownership, I decided that maybe after I paid off my student loans, that I'd keep the Sentra around as a commuting car. After all, I said, it gets about 40 MPG and it's not such a bad car, anyway.
Fast forward to now, and I"ve had the car for over a year, my student loans are STILL not paid off, but I love the Sentra. Wouldn't get rid of it for a million dollars (well, maybe a million, hell, even $20,000 :) I'm a sell out)
Anyway, reading all of the mods that are possible, and everything, you've all sucked me into your web of evil...
I WANT MY SENTRA TO BE FASTER, DAMMIT!!!!! :)
Can someone(s) give me some good ideas for what to do and where to start? To clarify, I want my car faster. I have no interest in altezzas, solar panel spoilers, 4" exhaust tips, and psychadelic striping. I want to retain the stock look and economy of this car. I still use it to drive to work, but a lot of that is on a 2 lane highway, and anyone who's driven a Sentra KNOWS that passing is a death defying feat in an unmodded car.
Here's the details of my current setup:
1997 Sentra GXE (it's that dark grayish-black color don't know the name of it) 5-speed, 1.6 liter 4 cylinder, 68K on the clock. I bought it at 46K and the original owner contacted me afterwards and gave me all service receipts and records since new. Oil has always been changed between 3-5K miles, and all scheduled services have been done. I just bought new tires all around a few months ago, so I don't need to get new ones--YET :))
I guess this is long enough for me to get a few bites. Oh, I don't really have a huge amount of money to spend on the car, since I just bought a house, but a few hundred here and there would be fine. Thanks for your help.

exaust with 4" tips??? no i dont waist my time i got a 4.5" lol bigger is better or at least looks cooler.

shit add all the bolt on goodies.. Intake Headers Exhaust ECM. Cams. you know all the good shit for the engine.. then just get some nice Strut braces, Dropped coils..KYB Adjustable STruts. and some nice wheels...

BUY PULLEYS !!!

(sorry had to say that)

add hot shots CAI and HS 5th Gen Headers..

add 2 inch piping (buy mandrel piping) and a canister muffler..

alot of body stylin is available and there is a turbo for the 1,6 L

Seriously though the guys have made some great comments. I think you should start off with the Hot Shot Cold Air intake. THen:

2. Hot Shot Headers
3. Stromung Exhaust
4. Unorthodox Racing Pulleys
5. JWT ECU
6. New Cams (sorry i know someone makes them but dont know who)

Remember Eshei, he said he just wanted to make it go faster, not stylish. He wants the sleeper look.

stromung is good... but that is more quiet than custom.. if u want loud go custom.. my .02 cents

save all the money to be spent on intake and exhaust stuff and whatever, then go FORCED INDUCTION.......

well.. if you want good GAS MILEAGE still.. then go exaust headers, intake.. ecu.. if you want to go turbo, you will get like.. 10 miles off your gas mileage.. per gallon.

Save all of your money for a DET. Driving an SR20 is a blast! You won't regret it.

shit if that is the case we should all go out and by the SR20DET yes it is the best out there.. but this guy is on a budget.. so he should like most of us out here just go ahead and fix up the engine he has.. I mean shit unless he is gonna plan on doing some heavy drag racing .. then hell yeah go with the SR20DET.. but if not stick with what you got and go from there...

Thanks for all of your advice guys (and girls, maybe, I dunno) I'm gonna go for the pulleys, I think. I'll have to check the classified section, then I'll probably get the intake and exhaust. From there, who knows, I may get addicted, say screw it and trade it in on a Spec V :)
Anyway, thanks again, it's been a real help.
