Last night, I got stuck in deep water at a flooded intersection. Motor won't turn over now, I've taken off the valve cover and spark plugs and cleaned the water out of the cylinders. but it still won't turn, there is Carbon on the pistons, and someone suggested that the water could have caused the carbon to loosen and re-settle on the piston causing it to not compress. This looks plausible as one piston is at the top of the cylinder and has A LOT of carbon on it. Is there a way to clean this without taking the head off?

Thanks for your help.

thats not it. check the starter. when you hydro-lock, you put an enormous strain on the starter. liquids dont compress, the engine could care less about that carbon.
