The reason that the short rams have a more pronounced sound is because its higher up in the engine bay than compared to the cai which go next to ur tire. I dunno this is what I thought, anyone care to correct me on it because im definetly no tech guy.

yeah cause the filter is right under the hood so u can hear it, but you can also hear the CAI, just bend down and u will hear it

The sound I am getting is more high pitched than when I first put it in.. like it started in the last week or 2.. it doesn't sound normal.. could I have not oiled the filter weel enough or something.. I am done with finals tommorow so friday I am gonna make sure everything is on tight and oiled well and see if the noise persists..

LOUD HISSSSSSSSSSS!

OK, WES, I have a CAI and it HISSES like a hundred mad pythons only when idling. You said Sherb tuned it out? So, does his car like, idle at 2000 rpms now? :p Naw, really, though, did it affect his idle speed or his emmisions? I assume this idle valve is on the throttle body? The hiss is so bad that I stuck some felt in the pipe to kill some of the hiss. I would really appreciate it if you could quickly describe the procedure.

Does it sound a lot like a faucet that's turned on? My Weapon-R WAI makes a lovely hiss at idle that turns into a full-blown roar when the engine is revved up. My WAI is one of the loudest intakes I've ever heard - it gets real annoying on the freeway... WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA... :D

my PR CAI was pretty damn loud too. after I put in the exhaust it quited down to a purr... funny huh?

Same here, and it tends to get even quieter with a header. The best sound is when you turn the car off, and the last thing you hear is the intake stop sucking. FFHHHHhhhhsshh.......

I need a new mod, dammit! LOL :p

True, but didn't you notice a change in audible note once you put the header on? That is, if you did the header AFTER the CAI. I did exhaust, then POP, then header, then CAI (bass-ackwards I know). So I have heard about every different sound my car makes. The best is just CAI.... has the deepest growl!

But the hiss! The hiss! It haunts me in my sleep! AAAAH! Get it out of my head! AAAH! Somebody tell me how to quiet the hiss! Why? Why does my car hiss at me so? Have I not treated you right? AAAH! The torture! The mayhem!

OK, let me get this straight.... you DON'T like the hissing sound coming from your CAI? LOL I have witnessed/heard someone's intake do that a long time ago, and I personally liked it! As for tuning it out I am not sure how to go about doing that to my knowledge (if you even can). There is an idle adjustment "screw" on on our motors, just not sure where --- sorry, my Chilton's manual sucks a fat one. :D It says when adjusting the screw to have the car in neutral. Also, if you haven't played with the idle it is very touchy. What I am not positive on is if adjusting the idle will advance or retard your timing, if any. Sorry for the babble... hope this helps.

I found the idle adjustment screw on the throttle body while doing the butterfly shaft mod this weekend. I did a variation on the write up. Instead of cutting off the side that the screw heads are on, I used a Dremel to grind away most of the other side, since that is the side that faces the incoming air. I figured it would help the air on the lower half move up along the disc and into the plenum with minimal interference. I also widened the cutaway on the screwhead side to almost the width of the valve opening and beveled the sharp edges. The car is more eager to rev, although I wouldn't say it has more hp. Also, it has a much smoother wail, and a whole lot of the "whooshing" sound is gone. I guess there's less turbulence. :D The tone did change, though. It's not rough and blatty any more. But it still hisses madly when idling. I'll have to research the idle adjustment valve some more before I touch it.
