Starting today NissanForums.com will no longer accept registrations with hotmail.com e-mail addresses. The reason being is hotmail.com apparently does not have the ability to receive the e-mail confirmation requests that are required by this forum to successfully create an account. Until this is corrected the ban will stay in place.

This will not affect current members who used a hotmail address to register. However, existing members will not be able to switch to a hotmail.com address.

I've never had that problem with hotmail and e-mail confirmations, I do have to go to the junk mail options and select "not junk mail," I guess this is new. Oh well, hotmail is teh suck lately, I only have it because my account is 6 yrs old and everyone has it.

Almost all of the requests for help we receive regarding registration problems are because of hotmail.

what happens is the conformation is sent to the spam folder........you just need to open the spam folder. many people olny have hotmail. what you should do scott is put info somewere were new members will see it. i used it for "dontmindme" and thats exactly what happend. just an FYI. :cheers:

wow, i only joined a few days ago with a hotmail account. I never encountered one problem, quick and simple it was. dont ppl know how to look in theer junk mail folders or cant they take off delete all unknown mesages for 20 minute while the registration comes thru?

I signed up with a Hotmail address the first time being afraid that I will get a lot of spam from this server which never happened. Then I switched to my actual email. I agree Hotmail is not reliable anymore. I couldn't log in for weeks ever since they said they've upgraded whatever they say they did. There's a way to read your Hotmail thru Outlook Express if you had an old account with them but all new accounts won't let you use Outlook anymore. Hotmail does suck!

Evidently not. Most of the problems members encounter while registering are because of hotmail.

This server will not send you anykind of spam ever. Sign up with your email address, it's safe.

The only emails you'll receive from nissanforums.com are daily thread subscription notifications. If you don't want to receive them, turn them off using the user control panel.

Actually, my comment regarding spam was directed toward Twiz.

I'm aware of the cause of the problem. However, because hotmail is directly responsible for a majority of the requests for help I receive I've decided to ban hotmail addresses altogether. Problem solved.

i didnt even notice when i posted but b11 accually said that before me. (i dont like to take credit away from others :thumbup: ) any who, a few weeks ago i joind a jeep forum (allways learning) and they dont allow any free email sites like hotmail, gmail, all that. annnd they wont allow new members to post pics for the first 6 months or unless they become contributers, thats harsh. i hope things dont come to that, but they seem'd to have their reasons.

This mail deal is due to admins having to manually adjust each persons membership with a hot mail address... it's time consuming and we simply don't have the time to do it.

i know, i read lol. im just saying, try to possibly figure out a way to inform new users of the issue (maybe a pop up window while registering...can you even do that? ) becasue many people only use free email's thats all, i ment no harm. :cheers:

What about an alternative to the reply link like a registration code number with their screen name in case they are behind a firewall or have spam blockers, etc. I don't want anyone to be discouraged from joining the forums because they have to sign up for an email account somewhere else. They may be trying to register to ask a maintenance, driveability or are just considering the purchase of a Nissan and I think that would be a little daunting for some.
Scott, I commend what you're doing and I do everything I can to support the cause. I just hope that there is a possible remedy because Hotmail is the largest free email provider.

There are a lot of boards that have banned Hotmail and even AOL registrations, because those are the ones most used by spammers.... Bored teenagers join some place with a Hotmail account, spam the boards til they get banned, and rejoin with another Hotmail account. It's a little extreme, but I understand that banning Hotmail would have other benefits aside from what's been mentioned already....
Besides, any user not having an e-mail account on an established network would likely only be here to cause problems, if you think about it.
