I recently purcased a 94 Nissan D21. The truck is a 3.0 V6. Im currently having trouble getting it to start. The previous owner said that he went to backout of his driveway and got about halfway out and it was just like the truck went dead. Wouldnt crank anymore. I figured for the thousand I got it for it was a good deal considering the 4 wheel drive in it hasnt been used and it has a brand new tranny just put in. Ive been piddling with it and found the coil in it wasnt sparking. Changed it and now have a good spark. Problem was only one plug was sparking and it was arcing. Took the distributor cap off and checked the rotor and sure enough the rotor is turning at all on start up. Im not sure what the problem is unless it the timing belt that has broke? If it did do you beleive I will need a new valve job on the truck? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thats funny because thats what ive been using is a pipe wrench. Maybe I just need a bigger hammer. haha. The Haynes manual says to remove the starter(which is a PITA on this truck to remove BTW) and jam something in the flywheel to keep it from turning. Sound better?

Well the timing belt was broken. Its all fixed now and the truck is actually running well. I expected it to have to have a head job. There is no power loss and its driving just like it did before. The only thing different is a barely audible click in one of the valves. I expect it to get worse, but so far so good. The only question i have is when i go into 4 high and then go back into 2 high I dont have the same acceleration anymore. Its slow, but if I go rom 2 high to 4 low and back nothing changes. Anyone with an answer? Is my timing slightly off maybe?

If you have auto hubs, your hubs lock when you go into 4HI. You have to stop, shift to 2WD and reverse at least 10 feet to make them unlock. If they stay locked you will notice a bit of drivetrain drag, as the front diff is still spinning when in motion.

You probably do have a bent valve. The tick will be the cam follower tapping on a now too wide gap between the rocker carm and valve tappet. Check compresson on the ticking cylinder, you'll probably find it to be low.
