If you're stuck on getting a Nissan crossover, it's a good choice. I'm not a big fan of Nissan's CVT transmissions as they've had a history of problems and the ride and handling of the Rogue is okay, but not really "engaging." If you are not stuck on the Nissan brand, there are better options available from other manufacturers, like the Subaru Forester, the Mazda CX5 or the Toyota Rav4. Personally, I would recommend the Forester; the are comfortable, have decent room inside and are very reliable. If you want something that is still "sporty-ish" to drive, I'd recommend the CX5, but there's a little more road noise.
