Hello ! This is new to me so please be patent. I have searched this forum for hours and cant find the info I am looking for. I am the proud owner of a 1990 (mfg date 06/1989) N/A A/T . I would Like to instal a set of headers.
Any tips on brand, type tech help and so on ? I am not concerned about finish , as I can get powder coating done cheap. Thank You for your help.

Most people go with the Stillen headers, they are $576.45 on their website. I think that there are some other smaller companies that put a set out. Will you be changing out the rest of the exhaust system from the headers back?
If not then the headers are gonna be a waste of time and money. As for the coating most come ceramic coated, but if you find some that arenot be sure you opt for the high temp power coating, the regular wont take the heat of an exhaust manifold. Hope this helps!

Actually headers, are not so good on the Z32 unless your shooting NOS. I have seen dyno comparisions of before and after and it's really not worth the money unless your juicing. Do the basice mods first ( Intake, exhaust, and ECU) before going to headers.

Thanks guys

More info on my Z : I have a K&N cone in place of the breather box.I used a $3.00 home made adaptor, of which I am quite proud. ( can give details if you want.) From the heads to the X looks stock. From the X back I have 3" mandril bent stainless. No muffler. Large resonator tips. The ECU is also stock I think. This the way I bought the car. Would a new ECU do anything for me without other mods? ( TT injectors, head work, and so on) By the way. Z21?? is that a pre war Datsun?

For a NA, I would just do what I said above. If you really want power you should get a turbo car, no joke. TT injectors, head work will not help you out unless you are shooting NOS.

Z21 was a typo and I corrected it above. :) I mean't Z32.

I don't get it

I have been watching this board for a while now, and there seems to be a consistent theme. If a N/A person asks a question, the answer is " buy a TT".
I understand that a N/A will never be as fast as a TT. But I am not trying to make my car faster than yours. I only want to make it better than it is. Where I live the Z32 is rare. Even as a N/A it still turns heads, and draws a crowd.

Hey man if your looking for anything else besides headers look into some jwt I've heard good things about them. And they have everything you need from headers to exhaust. On your N/A. About your ecu only go for jwt. They got the best after market system. For more info check their website out. You'll like what you see . But remember you can only go so far with an N/A. But with what you said, again I think you'll be happy.

I think the underdrive pulley is a good mod, seems to have the most noticeable power gain in my n/a. I have a 96 so it's not recommended to play with the exhaust system since they changed it for that year to comply with stricter emmission laws. I am always amazed with how much power some guys get out of their TTs, but with proper maintenance and a good set of tires, the n/a is still a peppy car.

The Escort headers are the best and actualy work well. Stillen headers have a very short primary and only help a little on the very top of the powerband. The Unorthadox UD pulley makes a big difference as does a JWT ECU and POP intake. JWT has cams that will work well with the header.

Bolt ons should net you about 30-40 mre hp.

AMZ sells Escort stuff.

Escort headers are proven best, but they cost $1899.00-1999.00
I have stillen, and they are quite expensive but they do the trick.
Go with AMZ Stainless Steel Headers - $329.99

Also, yes spongerider is right, there is a torque decrease, but high end power i noticed.

That statement is incorrect. Although my NA is heavily modded compared to most, i get better times in my car than when i drive a stock TT. although it is stock.

It's not a TT vs. Na thing it's a cost thing. If you were to get a cat back system a TT would show more of a gain in HPs. It goes with any other mods as well. I never made it my Z is faster then yours. I just gave you a opinion that you asked for. I have many friends that have or had a NA and what I told you is what they would tell me or other interested in modding their Na.

Stillen headers only add a little on the very top end surprisingly. Like in the last 500 rpm of the powerband

yes, thats because they are not equal length headers.
im 95% sure that the Escort headers are, allowing for a balanced exhaust pulse, and the smoothest operation.

the main reason is the stillen primary tubes are too short
