Hello,

I'm replacing the head gasket on a 2001 sentra 1.8

Does the entire intake have to come out? I've got it stripped down , exhaust off... feul rails out of the way, cams out... head bolts out.. it looks ready to come out but I'm not sure if I have to take out the intake or what because it doesnt seem to be coming loose

Help!

I have not worked on a QG, but did you check for a brace under the intake, the GA and SR has one.
Most lift out with the intake.....
Did you download the FSM ?

If you are sure its ready to come out, dont force anything yet....
Spin the engine over with the starter, you said the cams are out, ( pull the fuel pump fuse if you haven't already.)
The compression pressure will help you break the head free.

head gasket

Thanks for the reply. I did find a service manual online.. there is a section on "head removal" which mentions nothing about the actual disconnect of the intake... it only states "remove head with intake"
So I'm not sure if that means the intake comes with it....
If you know of anywhere I can search It'd be much appreciated. Perhaps this has the "brace" you refer to... where exactly was it?

well it says to "Remove intake manifold rear supports." see number 8.
So these were under the intake manifold and i removed form under the car when working on the SR starter.
Will try and find a drawing or picture.

Awesome thanks so much... We were working at it yesterday and I said "I checked with someone online and they mentioned braces in the back... " BAM we found 'em and it worked! I just dropped the head off to be inspected!

Thanks again :)
