Wow, you did my homework for me. I've got Prothanes on the way! I'd appreciate tips, suggestions etc. as I'll be following in your steps soon.

Pro: Reduces flex, replaces a 15 year old worn out part.
Con: increases vibration.

So I'm looking at this page:

and I notice that there are 4 motor mount inserts listed for the SR20 which is what you said you used. There are only 3 listed for the GA16?! My wife took my car so I can't go out and distinguish which application would work, but what do you think? I have the GA w/MT, btw.

There are no cons. Increases vibration a little. But less wheel hop, less movement, soild prothane mounts not little crappy rubber ones that flex and allow lots of movement.

All of them fit. The car that is shown in the pics is my 91' its a MT GA16DE also.

So I can pretty much expect a smoother ride with the prothanes then? Are they easy to install. I was also looking at coil over struts but I have the same question about them which is what's the advantage of them over stock? I've learned that there are the manual adjustment ones and the ones that are adjusted with a computer chip installed in your car.

Installing these are is not for beginners.

This thread has nothing to do with coilover setups post in the suspension part of the forum for that. The prothanes are not for beginners. The motor mounts i used are not exactly made for this motor.

Just because I've never dealt with prothane motor mounts doesn't mean that I'm a beginner. And why wouldn't they be for beginners anyway? Are there certain modifications that need to made to them to install?

Well, theres many steps involved. The easiest one is the front motor mount. I recommend doing them one at a time. It involves pressing out the old rubber motor mount... leaving the metal casing of the mount still intact. Then using some sort of lubricant inside the motor mount and the prothane mount itself. Then pressing the new motor mount insert in. Yeah it sounds easy but trust me its not. Either pay a machine shop to press out the stock mounts or you can remove them yourself as i did. With a hammer, chisel, hacksaw, and a vise. Last but not least DONT forget to support the motor with jack stands before removing any motor mounts. When you remove them you may need to re aline the motor mount cause the motor will flex and move when removing them.

Here is basically the same idea i found it on DSMtalk or some DSM site. This is exactly what i did. I didnt take any pics though.

Your supposed to burn them out. Put a torch (even a little propane one) on the bushing till it remains lit on it's own. Let it burn till it goes out. The remainder will fall right out. It doesn't get hot enough to cause damage so don't worry about that. Same steps are done on any pressed in bushings, i.e. control arm, sway bar, etc. Bearing grease is great for lubing these bushings, btw.

You're sorta right but not really. Cause you still have to press or cut the medal ring on the inside out. That cannot be burned out.

Now, the rubber yeah that can be burned out. But i do not suggest that.

can one of you guys post up the part #'s taht were used for this application?
part #'s would make finding these parts a lot easier. thanks guys.
