Okay, now this is my wifes 2002 G20 Sport (Auto). Only mod was a HS Cold Air Intake. We went out to Speedworld here in Phoenix, AZ. The G20 seems to be pretty quick for an auto on the street. We wanted to run it on the track just for giggles to see what it could do....and wouldn't you know they pair me up to a NA 300ZX. Even though it wasn't boosted, it still should be able to beat me.

When the light turned green, we spent off. I got a .576 reaction time, 1/8 ET was 11.680 @ 62.390mph and an 1/4 mile ET of 18.665 @ 76.833mph.

Even though I passed the finish line first, he got a faster time of 18.044 @ 76.486. I don't care though, I passed the line first :D He never made it past my rear right fender the entire race.

We did 2 passes in the car, the best run was a 18.031 @ 77.036mph.

Can't wait until we get more mods for her car!! I'm very eager to see what it'll do with the regular bolt-ons.

Yep, those g20's are slow alright.....they tip the scale at close to 2900 lbs i believe, which is quite a bit for an sr20 to pull, especially an auto. What year was that z taht it ran such a slow time as well??

I didn't "shift" I just drove it. :D Yea its slow, but hey its heavy as hell and its a auto with only a CAI. I wasn't expecting a 14 second 1/4 mile time.

Doesn't matter my wife said I looked good driving it.

Not sure what year the 300ZX was though. 1990 up.

That Z must've had a horrible driver. Even a 1990+ stock NA should be able to pull 16s. A good driver should be able to get a stock TT to do 13s. But you still beat him, and that's fair. :) Driver skill is always a factor!

It has to do with reaction time. Reaction time refers to the time between the light turning green and your car's front bumper breaking the timing beam right in front of your car at the line. Most drag strips I've seen, for heads up racing, have a .500 light which means a .500 reaction time (half a second) is perfect. The clock for your run doesn't start until that beam is broken. So when the light turns green you could sit there for a half hour and then go on to run a 15 second time. The reaction time is only there to see who can leave the line the fastest. It has no impact on your 1/4 mile time or on how fast your car is.

Keith got a .576 reaction time which is damn near perfect... the 300ZX must have had a noticably worse reaction time because Keith crossed the finish line first even though the 300 got a slightly better 1/4 mile time overall. In other words, Keith got the jump off the line and the 300 couldn't make up the difference in the space of a 1/4 mile, although he was going slightly faster.

That's happened to me before. Once I was up against a Mustang GT. I got a decent reaction time and a decent 60' time, and the Mustang had a horrible reaction. I mean it was over 2 seconds. I won the race with a 15.4 @ 90 MPH to the Mustang's 16.1 @ 94 MPH. Yeah, 4 MPH faster at the finish line. He was catching up to me the whole time down the strip but he couldn't get there in time to win it.

And then I had people coming up to me afterwards going "Man, you kicked that Mustang's ass!" Heh, yeah, but he was faster. I just launched better than he did and got lucky. :)

It really depends on the G20.. P10's are quite a bit lighter than the P11s. It also depends on the individual G20 as well. My G20 weighed in at 2695 w/o me a couple months ago, this is with everything still in the car, seats, floormats, spare, jack, etc.. no sub and about a 1/3 tank of gas or so. The only thing i've taken off the car to reduce weight is a bar in the front bumper that weighed maybe 5-10lbs (haven't weighed it yet)?

My G20 has run quite a few solid mid 15 second runs. i have a bunch of 15.4x-15.5x timeslips. All with 2.4-2.5 second 60fts :-( crappy tires suck. Now with my Azenis on there I hope to be able to cut 2.2's or possibly better (i've heard of some 2.1x's with them?..) I figure that'll drop me to very low 15's, maybe a very very high 14.9x if the conditions are right (not 110 outside like it normally is). Oh yeah, i run between 91.5-92.0mph through the traps.

My dad's automatic 91 300zxtt runs pretty consistant high 13's/low 14's on the G-tech. havn't taken it to the track yet, but i am expecting high 13's from that car. only mod is a cone air filter I installed a while back. The NA Z32s i've seen have most all run mid 15's to low 16's at the track.
