I'm new to modying Nissan's. I work in a dealer, just bought a very clean '97 200SX SE-R, 5spd with under 90k on the clock. I've got some stuff in the works but nothing poerfomrance wise yet, looking for best dollar for dollar on engine/performance mods. Eventually I'd like to do the JDM thing and go turbo with this car. Right now I just need a more power with what I've got. SR20DE engine by the way.
Any help, suggestions, experience is greatly appreciated.

Any specific reccomendations on brand/model header?
What about exhaust, I have to say that after driving a Mustang years ago with Flowmasters that droned at cruising speeds, I really like my quieter ride to work and don't want to sound like a swarm of angry hornets is chasing me everywhere I go. Any suggestions on what works good but isn't obnoxious sounding.

I was thinking about doing my own intake in a few weeks when I get a chance to really pour over design, can't see spending a lot of money on that when I can make one.

yea cams and heres a question for smarter people would a 91 se-r computer work with that car cus if i remember correctly the 91 se-rs had had a higher rev limiter than the 200sx's

the 91 ecu will not work on the 97 se-r.

if your actually going turbo and just looking for a minor boost in power i would just go with an intake, new cams, jim wolf ecu (or wait till your turboed and then buy it), and an exhaust.

whatever exhaust you get just make sure it has a resonator you can put one on it.

hotshot makes very good header(s). If your thinking of turbo though you might just want to save the money.

edit: if you havent already, check out the www.sr20forum.com for a ton more information from people who know wayyyy more than I will ever know

Header is dependant on how much you want to spend. You can find a used Hotshot for $250 or a new PS,OBX,TopSpeed header for around $150 -$200. You will pay for quality though. I had Pacesetter for years and I just switched to HotShot and it's Night and Day in response but there's less than a 5whp difference (dyno proven).

For exhaust you can get a VRS piping kit in 2.5in with a nice big resonator. I run the SS VRS piping kit (3in $200) and a 18in SS resonator with a magnaflow muffler from www.ajusa.com. This is a very quiet setup and cost efficient.

If you make your intake do a short ram with 2.5in piping and a nice K&N cone. Great sound and great performance.

'91 intake cam is a great mod if you are ready to open the car up. I did it before I got my S4 cams.

with a 2in exhaust, Pacesetter header, PR CAI I hit 140whp when i get the JWT S4 cams I did 153whp. Stock is around 118whp
