Hello to everybody,

Please spend 2-3 minutes of your time helping me out on this problem. I have done some search on this forum, but can't have a conclusion so far.

Car is 95 Sentra with GA16 motor. Once I put on the HS header + Stromung mid-pipe ( no cat, with resonator ) + Flow Master muffler all together, there is this terrible vibrating sound around 2500 - 3300 RPM & again 4500-5300 RPM. There are another 2-3 forum members having the same problem from my search.

Maybe I should have got the mid-pipe with cat at first place, but now it will be too much $$$. I seriously want to get rid off the noise, and here are my questions.

1. My best guess would be to replace with a better resonator. Do you agree ? And will this dramatically decrease performance ?

2. I should find a better resonator in the same size as what comes from Stromung. Anyone has any idea on the size of the Stromung resonator ? Or where should I go find out ?

3. What brand or type of resonator should I get in order to quiet everything down ? And from where and how much ?

Thanks so much for help. Have a good one, guys !!

make sure that the piping around the catback area isnt rattling against anything and has little distance. mine was doing this when i put my header on. i got piping repair wrap and wrapped it around where it was hitting before.

well hell if its the heat shield just take it off thats what i did i mean either way there going to be an area just below the shifter is going to be hot i found out after i put a bigger cat on my exhaust was a lot cooler plus i didnt know the asses left the stock 1 on there to and then it just finally gave and the pipe busted a big ass hole in it but anyway dump the heat shield thats what i say

check list;

1. check all exhaust hangers (i have a cloths hanger being used as the hanger right in front of the cat and it rattles and bizzes like crazy)
2. put your car on a lift (a lift not tire ramps, you can see better) and trace the entire exhaust tubing back for clearance issues
3. check all heat sheilds and anything else that may buzz.

if its a hard metalic sound it cant be your resonator so dont worry about that. the cat will quiet your ehxuast down alittle and sound better. if you cant find any problems with what i have listed then the only other thing it could be is your muffler. correct me if i am wrong but the flow master mufflers are not a straight through muffler like a magnaflo correct? they have interal baffeling that may have come loose and is causing the buzzing inside

I really appreciate all your help and advices !!

Well, before I only had HS header with 03 Spec V muffler and stock mid-pipe. There was some noise underneath the shift box, but it was bear-able.

Then, I got my flow master muffler and Stromung mid-pipe on at the same time. Instantly the noise is there. It's like a metal vibrating ( maybe touching ) sound so voilently. But my mechanic told me he has tried 2 flow master mufflers, but same result. So from that point, I suppose nothing in the muffler is loose.

Having read all your thoughts, I am gonna find some muffler shop and lift the car up to see which area is touching. I will probably hold on to my plan of replacing another resonator.

Further comments are still much appreciated. Have a good one, guys !!

Rattling

Could just be touching a crossmember (good advice to check clearance)
Honeycomb mufflers blow out (like my original muff) flowmaster/turbo muff should be straight through though (no honeycomb).
If you have no cat (bad idea and very loud, you need some back pressure!)
there is no issue with the cat honeycomb.
If nothing else (hangers use rubber that may tear/especially with age)
then maybe a short shifter rattling? if you have one.
Put on an SE-R cat (larger, more flow etc... and will help with noise).
Also check engine mounts (especially by the tranny).
Don't know about your downpipe but I had my entire exhaust re-done with HS header and downpipe, header cat bye bye!, new 02 sensors, turbo muff, 2 1/4" pipe, SE-R cat and fart-can tip (5") with a nice lub-dub low pitch sound, not like a wind-up noise as in honda. Somebody said the pipe is too big but I still have a cat for the backpress.
Let us know what you find....
