Exhaust leak 1997 Sentra GXE (1.6) FOUND LEAK!!!...need advice

Well the story goes, about 10k miles ago or less, my wife got a replacement exhaust for the rear section of the car (from about the firewall back). Flash forward to about a week ago and she starts to notice that it's a little louder than normal. I take it out for a spin and damn....it's loud. It's a deep enough rumble that I'm getting a rattling noise (from the heat shield on the exhaust manifold, I think). Before I throw it up on a set of ramps, any suggestions of past problems some of you may have had??

btw the car has 90k miles.

Thanks for your help

Jason

many people's exhaust manifold's have rusted so bad that they corrode and cause holes..........u should take off the heat shield and visually check it......also ask your wife if she has hit a speed bump pretty hard lately.

ok, so I got the car up on ramps and as soon as I crawled under, found that there was about an 18" section of pipe that ran from the bottom of the Exhaust manifold-under the oil pan and connected just about underneath the firewall. The flange under the firewall has come loose from that 18" piece of pipe so the exhaust isn't even totally making it out the back. Any ideas if that piece is available for replacement and if so, what it may be named for part number sake....

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Any muffler shop can fix that problem for you. You might even be able to do it. What has come loose on the flange? Was it the nuts that are loose, or is it that the flange studs broke?
Your best bet would be to just take it to a muffler shop. They might even inspect it for free, and then let you know whats wrong.

I hate it when that happens. One of my friends' civics had that exact thing happen to it. The easiest solution may very well be a trip to the muffler shop (could be the most inexpensive too). With a short length of tubing from Pep Boys and a bit of work you could probably do it yourself. But there's no guarantee that they'll have the right diameter piping and if you aren't at least a decent welder, you're in for a lot of fun. Good luck, and hope things turn out for the best.

that pipe rusted thru on my car, a trip to the junkyard and 20 bucks later it was fixed, not a difficult problem to solve either, I would actually look around for a b14 that somebody is parting out on the forums, they may be able to help you for a good price!
