Hi,
I have a 1.8L 2006 Sentra. I got the oil changed a while back and when I got home it was smoking badly from the bottom of the engine somewhere. The technician had fill the oil to well above the H. Not the high mark, but the letter H. It was brand new at the time, so, fearing the oil may have been ruined, I changed it myself. I ended up calling the mechanic at the Nissan dealership for proper fill levels. He said right in the middle of the hatched area on the dipstick was the best level to fill it to. Thats what I did. This time, no smoke. (The mechanic at the oil change place told me that the oil level was supposed to be above the letter H and that he did it correctly).

I got my oil changed again at a different place. This time I watched them. They put in 2.9L and didn't spill any on the engine. Got it home. Same problem. Smoking from the bottom of the engine compartment. This time the drive home was short, so I'm not worried about the oil being ruined. Again, however, the oil is filled to over the letter "H". Whats going on here? Too much oil?

Thanks!

I ended up calling Nissan again and just got the recommendation that I remove some oil. I still don't understand how people who do this for a living keep putting too much oil in the car. Maybe they're using 2.9qt instead of 2.9L.They also seem to be insistent that its ok to fill it above the H, but the smoking seems to indicate they're wrong.
