2002 Nissan Frontier w/3.3 V6. 115,000 miles. Driving it last night and it was running just fine, pulled into a parking lot and engine started clattering like a machine gun out of the blue. Sounds like it is from the top of the engine. Doesn't matter if the engine is warm or cold, it is a constant clatter. Seems like it still has no power Just a lot of noise. Clatter gets faster when revving. Any ideas on what it might be?

Update. I replaced the timing belt and (water pump while I was at it). It is still clattering. The valves have the single spring. Loosened the distributor and moved it back a forth a little and all that did is speed up or slow down the clatter. Also, I took it out and drove down the highway and it does not have power. It took a couple of miles to get up to 80 mph. clattered the whole way. I hooked up a tester under the dash and got these codes. P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. What could this be? Could a sensor have gone bad?
