When i get my new VE engine i want ot turbo it and i'd also like to put a dual muffler system on it. When it splits into the dual part, do i want 2 1.5" pipes or 2 3" pipes?

I'm looking into doing that, except with a new SR20. The bumper has 2 slots cut out, perfect for two mufflers. I'm willing to put a fake merely cosmetic one.

Nothing says performance like a 4cyl with a fake dual muffler setup.

seriously though, what's wrong with wanting a funcional dual system? I mean we have those cutouts on the rear of the b14 and it just seems like it would finish out the look better.

if u were to do some research most dual muffler systems do not work as well as a single system. in most cases going from a single to a dual you will loose performance. that is if its a working dual exhuast. of coarse a muffler in the second cut out thats not connected to the exhuast isnt gonna effect anything. but then at that point it will be deemed rice. basically theres no need for it. plus it looks stupid.

agreed about the fake muffler, but the hole also looks stupid.

here's a suggestion:

Get the VE. Then turbo it. THEN worry about dual pipes/mufflers. Until then, talking about something you'll probably never do is wasting bandwidth here.

sounds like some people on here have mistakenly identified their honda's for nissans... once your pushing TONS of air through those 4 cylinders i wouldn't think about dual exhaust yet, but if you want to be the cool one hanging out behind the movie theater with the neon boys then sure, slap on a fake exhaust..

If it were me doing this rice mod, I'd keep the sum of the cross-sectional area of the split pipes equal to the cross-sectional area of the main 3" pipe.

Area = pi*r^2

Area of 3" pipe = 3.142 * 1.5" * 1.5" = 7.069 sq in

7.069 sq in / 4 = 1.767 sq in (divide by 4 since we want 1/2 AREA)

1.767 = pi * r^2
1.767/pi = r^2
square root(1.767/3.142) = r = 0.75"
d = 2r = 1.5"

Now, wasn't that simple.
