this is probably a stupid question, but I haven't found the definitive answer in the book...

when the coolant reservoir is filled to its normal level, should I then top off the system by adding coolant directly into the radiator until I can see some liquid?

with most other cars that I've owned, you check the fluid by looking/filling the radiator.

thanks!

I have always filled mine at the reservoir, after filling the rad. Just keep an eye on the reservoir, and if everything is working right, it should fill the rad as needed. If the reservoir goes dry, fill it to the mark. Once it all settles down, fill it to the mark.

No question is too stupid. Especially if it keeps your truck running, the driveway clean, and your pets from drinking the anti-freeze.
Good Luck
