I have a GA16DE with the exhaust setup that runs header collectors into the cat, then to a resonator, and then finaly to a reverse flow muffler. I took off the rear muffler and it actually gave the car a very pleasent sound when the exhaust was warm. This is obviously due to the resonator in the system. But although my car sounds fast, I want it to be fast so i'm putting together a 2" rear or cat-back system. I bought a $15 cherry bomb from pepboys and am planning on useing that. Question is how do these bad boys sound on the GA16? Can I expect a loud pleasant sounding exhaust? you feedback will be appreciated!

Yeah....when i bought the cherry bomb all the muscle car buffs raved about it. Said it gave a nice deep mellow tone, and the hotter they get the better. But I still want to know it anyone has put one on a 1.6. Because it is about 24" long with a perforated core(not quite as smooth as a $200 muffler) but hey it's only $15! Well when I put it on I'll tell you if it's worth it.

I'm using an 18" Blue Streak glasspack (knock-off Cherry Bomb) and the stock resonator on original piping, and to be honest, I'm not very happy with it. The sound is annoyingly loud and drones at freeway speeds. I've noticed significant popping and crackling when shifting and stopping. If I were you, I would use a Cherry Bomb as a resonator and another muffler at the end.

$15 muffler = RICE

Please do yourselves a favor, don't waste your time and money (even though it's only $15). Them things aren't worth it at all. My friend put it on his 2k protege just for the hell of it, let me just tell you that just from the sound you'd probably thought he was driving a first gen rotary rx7.

Well the type of cherry bomb I got was the header type glasspack. I think these types of mufflers work best when hot, so if it's placed somewhat near the down pipe, when it heats up it might give a nice sound. I'll update when it's on there.

i agree....if u remove either the muffler or the resonator from a 2" exhaust, ur just going to make more noise without freeing up a significant amount of power. however, if u remove the muffler from the OEM exhuast, u will make more noise and free up a little more power. up to u though, try it out....u can always put it back;)

So removing the muffler from the OEM exhaust system frees up horsepower? I thought the lack of backpressure from the missing muffler would cause it to lose power.

well, not really, the small pipes would amke it loose power, but too big pipes on NA engine also looses power.. 2" is perfect.

i have the 20.. or 18 inch cherry bomb muffler..

Taking off the muffler would make your car sound like a 2ton bumble bee.

On the OEM exhaust because it has a big reverse flow muffler on the back it just causes more restrition. I took it off and it freed up some hp. I know this cuz of track times. As far as the tone, it actually sounds pretty good. I've had people ask me what type of exhaust I put on my car. It's a mellow rumble at idle, but when you rip it open, around 3-4 thousand rpm it sounds vicious. Give it a try and if you don't like it put the muffler back on. I've had mine off since I removed it, I like it.

I used a 18.5 inch glass pack as the resonator any longer and it dosnt give you much room for fitment.I tried a 28 incher but nope had to return it for a shorty. As sound goes I spliced it to my stock muffler{I now I cheated my self 3-4 horses}to keep it Quiet as possible. But you know what I dont have to let off the gas when going by a cop.The only time its loud is when I'm at 5grand
charging to red line and even then its no were as loud as most of the hondas around town.{I cant even hear my own exhaust when they go by. yuck!}

I fit a 30" cherry bomb in right after the cat. they have to trim both ends, but it will fit. then 2.25" crush bent pipe (nice and smooth though) I know 2" mandrel bends but this was a couple years ago. Anyway that flows into a magnaflow street series muffler. Quiet and deep, my CAI is much louder.

Thats what it looked like to me too,but I was worried about putting the 02 bung on the resonators inlet anyway.I used a peice of ss pipe to conect the cat to the resonator.I wouldn't think adding another glass pack to the end of the exhaust would make it louder as long as he left the resonator in place, and it would make it alittle quieter at wide open throttle.

dundee is your exhaust still ok..like I said I was scared to put the bung that close too the cat welded to weaker metal of the glass pack.I mean you said a couple of yrs ago.I geuss I could have welded it to the cat outlet since it is ss too.the 28inch was more like 33 with the outlets. My boss freaked me out when he told me it wouldn't last that way, but i knew it would of sounded good.

I did the same thing with mines(24" thrush glasspack). Got all of my parts from Jegs and had the local muffler shop do all the work for me.

There is an increase in noise....because it's a louder exhaust. But if you have the windows up it's very tolerable. Try it out, see for yourself

I think with the cherry bomb and the apex muffler you'll have a real quite exhaust. If you want a loud exhaust go with just the apex. But for a good quite performance setup, that is the was to go.
