Changing Belt

I am in the process of putting things back together after replacing the water pump on my 97 Sentra(140K). I am changing both belts since its all apart but not sure how to work the tensioner on the main belt. If I understand it correctly from other posts, I loosen the bolt on the front of the pulley, then crank on the tensioner adjust rod to loosen/tighten? Any help would be appreciated.
