My friend's 96 Altima is having tranny problems.
Its shift is delayed between 1st and 2nd gear. It revs up to 5 or 6k, before shifting, or else you can let your foot off the gas and then it will shift. It doesn't always do this. Sometimes it skips 2nd gear and goes from first to third. And right before and after it struggles to change gears, there's a slight squeal noise from the transmission. We've been told it's a bad band in the transmission. Could a tranny rebuild fix this or is it in need of an entirely new transmission? Or can you just replace the band?
