It seems my waterpump bearings are going. Making a grinding type noise at any rpm above idle. How easy (hard) would this be to replace? I have seen a few older posts about removing the top motor mount to get to it, but I'd like some other opinions. Its not leaking so I'm in no hurry (would be nice if I could hold out til spring), but sooner or later I have to decide: Do it or have someone else do it? Thanks for any advice.

I am pretty sure that the water pump is timing belt driven. And if you are sketchy about removing the engine mount then you should just take it to a certified mechanic to have the work performed. Also you might as well have the timing belt changed while it is already torn down to that point.

This engine has a timing chain. Its usually only the guides that need replaced there. The waterpump is belt driven, tied in with the power steeering pump. What I think the issue will be is space. Its awfully tight with the AC lines and walls of the engine compartment.
