I have a 1986.5, D21, 2.4 liter, 5 speed that has developed a curious problem. When you give it full throttle (for example in 2nd gear), the spark cuts in and out. I connectecd an instrument directly to the spark signal from the computer and while my friend drove, I watched the meter. Yet, it cuts out. The spark signal simply vanishes intermittently (it's like someone turning the key switch on and off).

What could possibly cause the engine computer to not put out the spark signal? Is there some condition that would cause the computer to stop spoarking or is my computer a dud?

This is a new problem and since it has over 200K miles could be anything? The old truck is part of the family.

Any opinions?

Exhaust Coild

Thanks for your comment...are you referring to the small module that interfaces between the computer spark signal and the actual spark coil? It is located right next to the spark coil. These two modules would be much cheaper to replace than the computer.

thanks, truckergang
