If my alternator ever takes the big dirt nap I'm thinking of upgrading it to a more powerful unit that can handle a higher draw. So, a few questions -

Would it be necessary? I'll eventually be going with about 430 watt of lights (including headlights) out front and I'm concerned about the draw. The car won't be idling with this setup (The lights will cook if not shut off while standing for more than a few minutes).

Has anyone done it? Audio guys?

What types can be used?

The car is a 94 sentra XE 5 spd, 1.6L with air.

I'm using stock lights (120 watts) but two sets of auxilary lights a set of fogs (110 watts total) and will be adding driving lights with the intention of going with 100 watts in each, about 430 total. I have them for night rallies. It may seem like overkill but they're great for zipping down cottage roads at 3am and really reduce eye strain.

I figure they'll draw over 35 amps when they're all run together.
