throttle position sensor harness connector... does anyone have a picture of this particular piece of hardware in the engine bay. it needs to be diconnected in order to advance the timing. for those of you who've done advanced timining, is this an easy piece to disconnect/find? the rest of the directions are fairly straightforward. i just want to doublecheck that i'm doing everything correctly. any pics or input would be greatly appreciated.

by the way, for those of you living in so-cal (where 92 is hard to find), how much have you advanced your timing? if you're running at 15 degrees, notice any problems with 91 octane? in other words, can i advance 15 degrees and safely run on 91 octane?

the tps is the thing next to the tb

i run at 17 degrees and i dont have any problems as long as i use 91 oct gas

btw advancing the timing makes wonders for your car

The TPS connector is a brown plug on the rear of the throttle body, right by the butterfly axis.

I ran 22 degrees timing for a month with 92 octane. It was hard on the engine so now I'm down to 12degrees.

okay, according to the directions i have, the tps harness is on the throttle body facing the firewall. so, it's the brown plug? i was looking through a chilton's guide. that was about as much help as nothing at all. i was hesitant because i didn't want to unplug the wrong thing.

and to actually adjust the timing, i do so by loosening the screws on the distributor and making the appropriate adjustments, right? i guess you could say my biggest concern is making sure things are done right.

by the way, what do you guys rely on when working under the hood? do you go with guides like chilton's or hayne's? is the FSM the best bet?

you have to have a timing gun, before you go loosening those screws.

You're definately on the right track. Make sure to adjust idle while adjusting the timing as it tends to go up a little as the timing is advanced. I use a chiltons to get a rough guide of what I'm supposed to do, but it's not the best, I know.

to answer your earlier question I use a Chiltons b/c I'm still trying to find the FSM on CD... if you ask them they have a lot of the other models on CD already but not ours... I refuse to buy an $90 paper weight.

I plan to advance my timing to about 15 degrees and have 91 octane. All i need is the timing gun.
