I didn't want to do this...intake, header, exhaust, pulley, timing...97 hp. Good thing I dont race a lot....97 hp will make you get your butt kicked up and down the block. :( :p So I guess its Show time....not Go time. :(

I think the stock ga auto was dynoed at 87 hp. My peak hp was 97.4 at 6200 rpm, and 94.1 tq at 4800 rpm. They ran up to third gear with O/D off. I think I might still continue to do performance mods...maybe.

hmm an AUTO!.. it doesnt matter if you have less horsepower than cars, my 200SX is lighter than my friends 2 dr civic EX. I got a better turning radius... as a matter of fact, my 200 can do a perfect U-Turn everytime!

I think manuals, although equal HP, can be better, becuase of the way it is driven, and you can take the RPMS higher than auto's.

have you tried a torque converter? There's a thread with info on it in the Project cars board:

go to reader's poll...

I don't know if you have one yet, or whether it would actually alter top-end HP, since its primary use is faster kick-off.

And have you tried toggling the OD? It seems to me that my car really restricts 3rd gear RPMs with the OD off. I like to toggle it off and on again when I'm at top speed to get it off of overdrive and back into 3rd gear. It's just a thought, and it probably won't work. :(

I was hoping to soup up my auto, too... :(

If you look at many cars including the Civic Si DOHC, the wheel HP is much less than the published. Also, keep in mind, honda HP is Peak at over 7000 RPM. They have no torque at the bottom until the VTEC kicks in. My 99 prelude was a terd on the bottom until the 5000 rpm and the cams kicked in, it wasn't usable. Nissan motors have linear torque curve thats usable. Build the motor and you will have good bottom end, mid and top. Don't get discouraged, remember, this motor when opened up, is responding to mods well. The head needs some TLC, but other than that, it can be made to compete.

The horsepower is less than published because car companies only like to publish the crank horsepower instead of the wheel horsepower. Our GAs produce 115 ponies at the crank but we lose about 20% of that power through the drivetrain (25% on auto, 15% on manual) and the horspower is only about 90 or so when it gets all the way down to the wheels.

even though it doesn't put out a lot of horses I still make jaws drop when i pass that car who thought "just a sentra". No a earth shattering race car its not but still a hell of a lot of fun to drive. The challenge is making a slow car (econo-box) go fast!

actually...

the automatic doesn't even put out the 87-90 ponies at the wheels that the manual does. It's more like 80! I think the auto takes around 30% off the sucker as compared to 20% for the manual.

So if you're at 97hp, cheer up! You've got around 20 extra ponies that weren't there before!

And you haven't even touched your tranny, have you?

OK...as I said before, the O/D was off for the runs, so thats the best it could do. I haven't done the torque converter yet....I kinda still have doubts...I'll do cams first. I mean, my stock converter takes off from about 2600 rpm right now, and the upgraded one goes to 3000 rpm....I'm not paying so much money for an extra 400 rpm....the good power doesn't even start till mid 3000's.

Someone said its turbo time? Well, I have been thinking about it for a while, but I keep saying no. Turbo just seems like too much maintainance for me....I dont mean fixing stuff, just too much to learn. I wouldn't mind turboing the GA, but I'd have to do brakes, tranny, engine internals, someone told me axles, and other stuff....just too much for me...I really cant afford all that. Unless I can start out with a really low boost level, where I can at least put off ugrading tranny etc for a little while. I really wouldn't mind turbo though.

If I could start over, I wouldn't have done the header and exhaust. They cost me soooo much money, and if I go turbo, I lose the header, and a turbo with a 2" exhaust is somewhat.....weird. I would keep the exhaust though, no matter if I go turbo or not.

Well....only time will tell....who knows, with the right funding, I could be the first auto GA16DET.;)

You mean Rice time:D? J/K, I just wish there was more parts available though, wide body kits, better facia's...ect.
Heck no....subtle styling for me. A little surprise wing, and a lip spoiler...thats it. Then some 16" wheels, then i'm done outside. I might just drop the bolt-ons, do some cosmetics, then prep for turbo...(lots of money involved :()
