Hi guys,
Can someone please explain to me exactly how the system works on my 98SE? I still have the stock alarm with the original key remotes and everything works fine.
I just need to know in which case the truck won't turn on if it's being stolen.
Knowing that the keys don't have a chip; will the alarm go off only when someone breaks into the truck with no key?
If someone opens the door with a slim jim or the like, will the alarm sound? Will the engine turn on if he wire-started it for example?
Sorry for all the questions and thanks :)

I don't know about your key, but mine is chipped in a 99. Factory alarms generally aren't the greatest and are only hooked up to a door trigger aside from the factory locks, meaning that if someone opens the door by busting the window and flipping the lock over to open the car, the alarm will sound. That's why I don't trust factory stuff much, as it's pretty easy to get away with the car while the alarm is blaring. Not to mention once under the hood, they can pull both feuses to the primary horn and secondary anti-theft horn and be good to go.

I'm new here, but just so you know I install car stereos, alarms, and mobile video stuff for a living so that's where my knowledge comes from. Hope I helped!

Yes, I failed to hook up the factory alarm disarm in my pathfinder when installing the aftermarket alarm and accidentally set it off in my apartment complex. I didnt have the key fob to shut it off so I drove the car off the complex to pull the feuses.

It sounds stupid of Nissan to make an alarm that, once triggered, does not immobilize the vehicle....
Thanks for your input.

I just managed to find the manual; in it they state that:
"The warning system will give the following alarm:
- The headlights blink and the horn sounds intermittently. In addition, the starter motor will not operate.
...
The alarm will stop only by unlocking a door or back door with the key or multi-remote controller. The alarm will not stop if the ignition switch is turned to ACC"

So I think it has an immobiliser afterall....
What do you think guys?

Hmm, sounds like its supposed to. Wonder why mine didn't work! I was litteraly driving out of the apartment complex with the horn blaring. I'm pretty sure the groundskeeper thought I was stealing someones car as I was just moving in at the time too.

Weird, maybe it has something to do with installing an aftermarket alarm??
What I'm worried about is about someone shoving a screwdriver in the keyhole and forcing it to unlock, then the alarm will deactivate as if the key was used, and then the truck can be hot wired easily!!!
Is there a way to improve the stock alarm? I hate bypassing it and installing an aftermarket alarm, cos I'm sure from the lack of professional electricians here that it will cause problems.
Cars are being stolen here and I'm worried.
Any ideas?
