So when the car has been sitting for a while (8 hours or longer) when i start driving for the first 2-3 minutes there is a grinding sound when i use the brakes....then it goes way and everything is fine. Any ideas what that would be? Thank you for any help
im not an expert but I know my friends brakes stick if he leaves his vehicle for over a week...hes checked the breaks and it doesnt affect anything, they just stick...My dad told me never to put on the e-brake on my 97 when its cold cuz it will stick just from sitting overnight...i dont know if this helps much but thats all Ive got
This typically happens due to condesation on pads/rotors. Bit of rust forms over night on rotors. As long as noise goes away after first 1 or 2 brake applications, nothing to worry about. If it continues to make noise whenever you apply brakes (squeals) then time to replace pads and maybe machine rotors.
If pads and rotors are needed, do it. Otherwise could just be sticky sliders on the caliper holder. Grind all the contact points down, give them a good coat of anti seize grease and see what happens. Won't cost you much and should only take about an hour.
