I've got a 1997 Altima GXE, and when searching on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market for a low mileage replacement engine, it looks like they made some type of change mid-year.

(2.4L, VIN B, 4th digit, KA24DE), Fed, thru 6/96
(2.4L, VIN B, 4th digit, KA24DE), Fed, from 7/96

How do I tell which engine I need?

those parts dont make the ka what it is. those are parts that are bolted on. ANYTHING could be bolted onto it, but it will still be a ka underneath.
