I've got a 93 2wd standard truck. The rear end clunks loudly when going over bumps and around corners. The shocks have been replaced and I checked the springs, mounts etc. and nothing seems to be loose or broken. Jumping up and down in the bed doesn't cause it to clunk.

I figured it must be the diff.

Any ideas? What should I look for?

try tighten ing the cross member and the one under neath the oil pan..

I had a similar problem with a 94. Check to see if the muffler is loose. A bracket holding it in can rust through - and it won't like like anything is wrong perhaps (although you may have already checked that though, you said you have checked for loose things underneath).

That was the problem with mine; I just used some wire to re-secure it.
