93 altima making bad engine sound

my 93 altima is making a tinging/rattling noise directly under the oil fill cap. sounds like something is loose in there. started about a week ago. anyone have an idea of what started making this noise? common problem on altima's?

Sounds like the cam chain tensioner is going out. Do a search for cam chain tensioner and you'll find more info about it. Could be the top chain guide has broken, and if so you can remove the valve cover and remove it as it's really not needed. I think Nissan had a TSB that said to remove it anyway.
