My wife's 92 Sentra XE seems to have way to much travel in the brake pedal. The brakes will lock up, but only near the very bottom of the travel. In my past experience worn rear shoes often resulted in excessive travel. I pulled one of the drums off the other day, and the shoes look OK. There also seems to be the appropriate amount of drag on the drums when the brakes are not applied, so I think the self-adjusters are working OK. The pads up front are also good, and the car stops straight, though there is often a speed-related clunking sound which can be heard coming from the right-rear of the car on hard braking. Might the brake pedal itself be in need of adjustment? And what might that darn clunking be?
Gawd I hate drum brakes. Glad my S12 has 4 wheel discs.
