Dude, I feel your pain. The same thing happened to my '90. (Actually, I bought her that way...) I changed out the cable and it didn't fix it and I haven't bothered to change out the cluster. Funny thing is, I have no idea what the actual speed is I'm driving. I drove my Dad's rig the other day, turns out I'm a pretty slow driver.
