89 4X4 Loss of Power

I have an 89 with the 6 cylinder engine. Recently, I have noticed when I shift from 2nd to 3rd, it will immediately bog out and must be shifted down to 2nd. Eventually, I can shift to 3rd, but, again it will bog completely down like it has lost power in all cylinders when shifting to 4th.

It idles fine and starts out in low fine. I am thinking it could be the fuel filter, fuel pump, or electrical, such as the ignition module. Sunday morning it was particularly difficult. It had rained all night.

Any suggestions are appreciated. I may check the fuel pressure first. Has anyone had this problem?

No check engine light has come on yet. How do I check to determine if the ECU is in limp mode? I have an OBD II reader, but presumed it would not hook on to an 89. Maybe it will. Thanks.
Thanks. This is very helpful. I read the instructions for pulling the codes. I will give it a try this weekend. I have 2 '89 Nissan 4wd trucks and a '95 Nissan Pathfinder, but have never had to pull the codes on any of them before!

I drove the black truck tonight to get in to feed cattle and it ran fine. It may have had something to do with the moisture last weekend.
