does anybody here have a 4wd sentra, and knows how to take out the rack and pinion??? the manual says to unbolt the rear engine mount and drop it out the bottom, but the driveshaft is in the way. also does anybody know what the difference is between a 4wd rack and a fwd rack, there is a distinction of 100$ between them on auto-zones website. I'm thinking i should just get a replacement from a junkyard, but i'd rather rebuild mine.

thanks guys!

I've never changed one while the engine was still in the car, but I suppose it's possible. I did find a difference with the 4WD racks compared to the 2WD racks. The 4WD rack is faster with less turns required from lock to lock. There may be other differences so I can't say it's a direct swap, but it might be. :)

This probably comes too late, but I bought a brand new [genuine Nissan] '90 B12 4WD power steering rack from OEM Surplus for just $100 plus shipping. They said they had four left.

These are much more desirable than an auto store rebuilt unit IMO. Re-use your original inner tie rods and rack boots or buy new ones as needed.
