My dealer will do as I ask, which is every 30,000 miles. Never had an issue.
Yep, @Svtrit has it right. The short explanation is that CVT transmissions are metal-on-metal devices, they propel your car using a metal belt riding on two metal pulleys with no sacrificial clutch material in between. That means the tranny is completely dependent on the quality of the fluid to prevent metal from meeting metal. When that does happen, the tranny is toast. So sooner or later, worn-out fluid amounts to a transmission death sentence. The only reason Nissan (and others) don't recommend changes is to keep the official cost of ownership low, but that assumes you'll be driving the car for 5 or 6 years and then making it someone else's problem. It certainly isn't what's best for the tranny if you plan to keep the car for awhile. If you do, it's already overdue for fluid and you should keep it fresh at 30K m / 50K km.They said that the change was not required unless there was a issue with the CVT. There is 91,000km (56,000mi) on my Rogue. I purchased it at 86,000km. I'm uncertain if it ever had a fluid change. What are your thoughts?
I would go by the owners Manuel If there is a problem with the CVT your F-----ked if you don't.I called the Nissan dealership (Canada) to schedule an appointment for a CVT fluid change. The Owner's Manual is the problem with CVT's. Nissan recommends zero maintenance, for the reason I described above. The sad fact is, following the Owner's Manual is when you're f----ed. Change the fluid, full stop.I would go by the owners Manuel If there is a problem with the CVT your F-----ked if you don't.
That might not be a bad idea if your dealer won't service it. Must be a bad staff, because there's certainly no prohibition from Nissan about changing fluid if a customer wishes. It just isn't a recommendation in the OM. That's beyond ignorant, it's stupid, and I don't blame you if you don't want to own a car that requires service by stupid people.I spoke with the dealership again today and they said that Nissan does not recommend the fluid be changed. I called a local transmission shop and he said I shouldn't bother with a fluid change til about 150k Km's (93k miles). He said the CVT issue was ironed out for my generation (2018). I only use the Rogue for commuting to and from work and no towing. Maybe it's time to look at getting a Rav4.
I don’t think this model has a dipstick however you can buy a cvt dipstick on line and check the condition of the fluid. I saw one for 12 bucks on eBay. You can change it yourself it’s fairly easy to do. Don’t wait too long.I called the Nissan dealership (Canada) to schedule an appointment for a CVT fluid change.
