Hi everyone. I just signed up for this site because I know very little about fixing cars and need some help. Two nights ago I was getting ready to leave my apartment when my car died. I had just backed out of my parking spot and started to drive when the engine died. The car now doesn't start. It's a 2002 Sentra with a manual transmission.

Here are the dirty details. The engine turns over but does not start. I haven't had any problems with this car until now, and I bought it about 3 and a half years ago, so it isn't something from a pre-existing problem. From the research I've done and people I've talked to, it seems that the fuel pump is a likely candidate for the problem, or possibly the fuel pump relay. Can anyone tell me how I can verify if this is the problem and how easy/expensive it would be to fix? I've heard that there is an access panel to the fuel pump that you can get to by removing the rear seat, which is supposedly very easy to do. Does anyone have any info/advice that would be helpful to me, someone who knows very very little about how to fix a car?

Thanks in advance for the help guys!

Mods?
Milage?
SES light?
Has it happened since?
Any noticable loss in power aside from it cutting off that one time?
Safe to assume you got the 1.8 engine?

No mods
Mileage ~ 79k
SES light came on when the engine shut off, but had not come on until that point
Car will not start currently
No noticeable loss in power before this happened
1.8 engine is correct

So for all the questions, but the more info the better.

Original battery?
Original alternator?
Have you tried getting a jump?
Does it atleast try to turn over?

Not the original battery
Original alternator to the best of my knowledge
Haven't tried getting a jump
And as I stated in the first post, the engine turns over but just does not start.

Try getting a jump first
If the car starts, disconnect the ground from your battery.
If the car dies then your alternator pooped itself.
If it doesnt die out, then I would get the battery tested.

It can be tested at an Autozone for a weak cell(s)

It is not the battery.
The fuel pump does not always prime up for some reason. When the fuel pump does get power and prime up, the engine starts. This got me to work today, but same no-start issue when I went to leave for the day.
I checked the battery, all of the fuses, and all of the relays and they were all fine. Does anyone have any other suggestions? My friend thinks that it might be the ignition coil going bad.

What ended up fixing the car please? Was it the fuel pump?
