Having recently removed (see my other thread) the rear silencer or back box from my 2.0 Petrol sport X-T, it sounds rather nice and doesnt have that huge lump of steel hanging down to hit every lump or bump (or maybe protect the underside?). I have seen, in the past, by Aussietrail, i think, the replacement of this box by a cherry bomb type silencer.

My questions are as follows....

Is the rear box necessary for correct fuelling/running? It seems that it is just a passive silencer box.
Is the rear box necessary to conform to emissions testing?
Is it an MOT fail if it has been removed?
Can I just extend the tail pipe around and to the rear of the vehicle?

If I have to have a silencer, what type do people recomend - I like the idea of a silencer "in line" such as that fitted by Aussietrail, rather than the "across car" standard style.

Hi Mate,

Pics of my exhaust system can be found on the Aussie Forum HERE and the rear muffler is very much needed to comply with emission and dBa sound level which will be both checked at MOT registration renewal time.
