I'm wanting to replace my belts on my '98. My Haynes, and other folks on the net, say to unscrew the bolts and the belt will fall off. How far do I have to unscrew them? I unscrewed the main one (not the locking one) a lot, and there was no change in the tension it seemed (to my untrained eye and feel). I'm wondering if the belts would indeed lose tension if I keep unscrewing the bolts, or if there might be something wrong with the tension pulley. The belts appear to be original, but 140k on the odometer, I'd like to get them replaced, though they look really good for how many miles they've been through.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

you have to undo the locking bold for it to slide.

Thanks a lot!! I'll have to get into that when I have some extra time. It's greatly appreciated!
