I have the stated truck. A few months ago a mechanic said I had an upper ball joint going out on my truck (driver's side). Recently I am hearing a "knocking" sound periodically when driving, mainly over bumps (appears to be coming from drivers side tire well). Could this be the upper ball joint going bad? How can I check it? If so, how difficult is it to replace and can anyone assist me with diagrams/instructions/illustrations on how to replace it? Thanks so much.

jack the frt end up, with the tires off the ground take a pry bar and use it to lift the tire up and down, have someone watch the frt suspension on that side while doing this.

upper BJs are easy to replace, remove frt tire, remove castle nut on bj, take BFH and hit knuckle to free it from bj, 4 bolts hold in bj, and replace.

Ok, while lifting the tire, if the ball joint is a problem, will there be a noise? "BFH and hit knuckle to free it from bj."??? Could you please explain (what is BFH? etc.)? Thanks.
