I just purchased a 1987 Sentra, 50k miles, automatic trans. Are there any common mechanical problems that I should watch for on an "87? Any routine maintenance besides tune ups? This is a very clean car.
Well if the original timing belt is on there, you really need to change it. Its probably one its way to being dried out and if it breaks, you have an expensive project on your hands. How does bent valves sound to you? Also you might want to inspect all other belts and hoses because of age. I will tell you right now that age is just as harmful as mileage. In another 10k you will be ready for a transmission fluid change. I suggest you do that before that because of age.
