I have been driving and working on old Subarus, took a few old Brats across the country, recently found a 200sx that has not ran in 12 years, scooped it up for cheap and am really looking forward to working on a car that's not a Subaru for a change, haha.

The Car:

It lived in a barn in Michigan (where I live) has moss and lichen growing all over it, however, it only has a few small spots of rust. The car looks complete, have not had a chance to do much as I am currently renovating my house. Will have a very small budget for this car, just going to do as much as I can for $50-100 a month, see if I can't breath life back into this gem.

A mechanic friend (I'm a mechanic, but I work on RV's not cars) is trying to get me to just change oil, give it clean gas and see what happens. I am concerned about starting it without checking out the timming belt, giving the turbo a spin and checking over things that could cause headaches.

I'm thinking I should break this thing down, replace all the rubber bits, change all fluids and rebuild what can be re-built.

Do you all think it will be okay to give it a test start? What are common failure points I should check out? What am I getting myself into (besides several beers)

Thanks,
Michael
