I have an 07 Altima and recently had a mishap with the small rubber piece around the gearshift. It was accidentally pushed through when something fell on top of it. I want to put it back in place, but I’m clueless on how to get the panel off around the gearshift. I had some other guys look at it and they were afraid of tearing it up by forcing it. Should it simply pop off or do I need to remove other pieces of the interior? Thanks for any help.

Just pull up on the panel. It is held on with clips. If you open the storage compartment in front of the shifter it makes it easier to pull the panel off.

Use something that won't scratch, mar or damage the surrounding areas of the shifter! Something thin and made of plastic, like a plastic pry tool.

Thanks for the help so far. I got off the panel, but I was not successful at getting the two small rubber pieces back in place. Is there a trick to getting them to stay up? They just fell back down every time I thought they might be latched on.
