my 05 downshifts when going down hills - all of a sudden goes from free wheeling at 1k rpms to engine braking at 25k) is this normal to help slow vehicle reducing wear on brakes? thanks

hmmm. must be a truck thing. wife's maxima does not do that, it pretty much coasts down hills.

seems like it is wasting gas by reducing momentum. guess it saves on brake pads tho.
