R50 ethanol free gas problems

I got all excited that Maverick has ethanol free gas available. Filled up my tank and almost immediately i started having problems - rough /missing at idle, hard starts, etc. Anyone else seen this? I guess i'll suffer through half a tank and then try and dilute it with fresh regular. I really thought it would make things better not worse.

Sometimes after a fresh load of gasoline, dirt and crap get stirred up in the underground tanks and mess up cars fuel delivery systems (or so I’ve read in the interwebs, so it must be true).

And there was this one time out in Idaho when a tier one provider got a load of bad gasoline and ruined many car engines. The retailer completely covered the cost of repairs.

yep, i've had bad gas before, usually from too much ethanol or water. But I'm hoping to hear any specific feedback on ethanol free gas and how compatible it is with R50 engines. It's certainly possible i could be super lucky and got a bad tank of it but suspect that is highly unlikely.

This seems like a rather strange question. Is ethanol-free gas compatible for your car? Isn’t that the same gas we all used before they started putting ethanol in our gas in the 2000's? Well, technically, yes it is. I mean, it may not be exactly the same (because there are all sorts of modern detergents and additives that get developed over the years). But by and large, it’s the same stuff. Most cars today can run on ethanol gas blends up to E15 (15% ethanol) and on non-ethanol gasoline. And flex fuel vehicles can handle up to E85 (85% ethanol) without a problem.

So checking the manual for 2003 SE (correction to my original 2004 SE note), fuel recommendation is 87 octane rating with no more than 10% oxygenates(including ethanol). So it would seem the 3.5L pathy engine in 2003 was designed for pure gas or at least minimal ethanol. Not E15+

but realworld update - i added a bottle of octane booster yesterday and it has improved engine running - smoother idle, etc. So it is possible i just got a low octane or bad tank of 'pure gas'. I'm going to refill with the usual 87 octane for a couple of tanks. then try again with pure gas from a different vender and report back

thanks
